Singapore Cyber Landscape 2023

Published on 30 Jul 2024

The “Singapore Cyber Landscape (SCL) 2023” reviews Singapore’s cybersecurity situation in 2023 against the backdrop of global trends and events, and highlights Singapore’s efforts in creating a safer cyberspace.

Several cybersecurity trends took the headlines in 2023. These included (i) threats that leveraged vulnerabilities in supply chains and popular third-party services, (ii) the expanding operations of hacktivist groups, and (iii) the exploitation of generative artificial intelligence (AI) by malicious actors to enhance their attacks.

In line with global trends, Singapore’s cyber landscape continued to see a high number of ransomware attacks. While the number of phishing attempts that were reported to CSA had fallen last year, there were indications that cybercriminals are shifting tactics to make their phishing attempts appear more legitimate and authentic. There was also evidence of threat actors leveraging generative AI to enhance their phishing content in the locally reported cases.

Amidst the evolving cyber threat landscape, CSA and our partners have continued to step up our efforts to protect our cyberspace, for which some of the key initiatives have been featured in the SCL. Through case studies of incidents in Singapore, the publication also aims to raise awareness of the impact of cyber-attacks from the perspective of the victims, as well as highlight the importance of good cyber hygiene and resilience.
