[SingCERT] Securing Your Mobile Devices When Travelling This Holiday Season

Published on Friday, 08 December 2017 16:52

Background

As the year comes to a close, we would like to remind all who are travelling during this holiday season to remain vigilant against potential cyber threats and practise good cyber hygiene when using smart mobile devices. SingCERT recommends the following steps to prevent yourself from becoming a cyber-victim.

Recommendations
  1. Avoid using unsecured public Wi-Fi networks to access personal information and perform online transactions, as the attackers can intercept sensitive information.

  2. Turn off your devices' Bluetooth when not in use. Hackers can pair with your devices' open Bluetooth connection when you are not using it and steal your personal information.

  3. Watch out for phishing scams. Do not click on the links in any emails that seem suspicious. These emails are designed to trick you to provide your personal information. More information can be found here.

  4. Use reputable and trusted Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access personal information and perform online transactions. A VPN lets you secure your network traffic.

SingCERT wishes everyone a happy and cybersafe holiday.
