Singapore Signs MOU with Australia to Enhance Cybersecurity Collaboration

Singapore and Australia signed a two-year MOU to boost cybersecurity ties. The deal covers threat information exchanges, critical infrastructure protection, and joint regional capacity building, including a 2017 ASEAN cyber-risk workshop.

1 Singapore and Australia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on strengthening cybersecurity cooperation as part of the 2nd Singapore-Australia Leaders’ Summit.
2 The MOU was signed by Mr David Koh, Chief Executive, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), and Dr. Tobias Feakin, Ambassador for Cyber Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The signing ceremony was held at the Istana and witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia.
3 The agreement covers cybersecurity cooperation in key areas including regular information exchanges on cybersecurity incidents and threats, sharing of best practices to promote innovation in cybersecurity, training in cybersecurity skillsets, joint cybersecurity exercises with a focus on the protection of Critical Information Infrastructure as well as collaboration on regional cyber capacity building and confidence building measures. Both parties also committed to promote voluntary norms of responsible state behaviour in cyberspace. As a first step, both parties will organise an ASEAN cyber-risk reduction workshop at the end of 2017.

This is the sixth bilateral MOU entered into by CSA, following cybersecurity MOUs signed with France, India, the Netherlands, UK, and the United States. The initial MOU will last for two years.
