Singapore Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Canada on Cybersecurity Cooperation

Singapore and Canada signed a two-year MoU to cooperate on cyber threat sharing, best practices, and regional capacity building. The deal, signed during PM Trudeau's 2018 visit, aims to bolster operational security and the ASEAN cyber landscape.

It was witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada.
1 Singapore and Canada have signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cybersecurity Cooperation. The MoU was signed by Mr David Koh, Chief Executive, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and Ms Lynn McDonald, High Commissioner of Canada in Singapore, on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development.
2 The MoU exchange took place on 14 November 2018, at the sidelines of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to Singapore, in conjunction with the 33rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits as Guest of the Chair. It was witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada.
3 The MoU will cover cybersecurity cooperation in key areas including information exchange and sharing on cyber threats and cyber-attacks, sharing of best practices on human resource development, provision of technical and certification services and development of cybersecurity standards; and collaboration on regional cybersecurity capacity building. Such exchanges will continue to strengthen Singapore’s operational cybersecurity capabilities, including critical infrastructure protection, enhance Singapore’s ongoing domestic cybersecurity ecosystem development efforts as well as advance the development of a secure and trusted regional cyberspace in ASEAN.
4 Pior to the signing of this MoU, CSA had previously signed MoUs with Australia, France, India, the Netherlands, UK and the United States, a Joint Declaration on cybersecurity cooperation with Germany and a Memorandum of Cooperation on Cybersecurity with Japan.

The MOU will help to strengthen the cybersecurity landscape of both countries. We are also happy to be working together on cybersecurity capacity building initiatives in the region."
