Active Exploitation of Metabase Vulnerability
4 November 2026
Attackers have been exploiting a critical vulnerability in Metabase to inject arbitrary SQL and gain administrator access. Patch immediately.
Background
Metabase has released security updates to address a critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-72898) affecting Metabase. This vulnerability has a Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS v3.1) score of 10.0 out of 10.
Impact
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to inject arbitrary SQL into the Metabase application database and gain administrator access to the connected Metabase instance.
Known Exploitation
This vulnerability has been actively exploited, and a proof-of-concept exploit is publicly available.
Affected Products
The vulnerability affects the following products:
Metabase versions 0.58.0 to versions prior to 0.58.24
Metabase versions 0.59.0 to versions prior to 0.59.21
Metabase versions 0.60.0 to versions prior to 0.60.17
Metabase versions 0.61.0 to versions prior to 0.61.11
Metabase versions 0.62.0 to versions prior to 0.62.9
Metabase versions 0.63.0 to versions prior to 0.63.5
Metabase versions 1.58.0 to versions prior to 1.58.24
Metabase versions 1.59.0 to versions prior to 1.59.21
Metabase versions 1.60.0 to versions prior to 1.60.17
Metabase versions 1.61.0 to versions prior to 1.61.11
Metabase versions 1.62.0 to versions prior to 1.62.9
Metabase versions 1.63.0 to versions prior to 1.63.5
Recommendations
Users and administrators of affected products are advised to update to the latest patched versions immediately.
As the vulnerability has been actively exploited, users and administrators who are self-hosting publicly accessible Metabase instances are advised to follow Metabase's post-upgrade security guidance. This includes revoking active user sessions, reviewing administrator accounts and API keys, rotating credentials for connected databases, and checking logs for signs of unauthorised access or activity.
Workaround
If immediate upgrading is not possible, administrators should block access to the /api/session/reset_password endpoint as a temporary workaround.
