#WorkinginCSA: Where Cybersecurity Challenges Meet Innovative Solutions
21 November 2025
Mark Chong is an Assistant Director at CSA’s Industry Division, running CyberCall to connect organisations facing emerging cybersecurity challenges with innovative solution providers.

1. Tell us more about your team’s work and your role as an in CSA industry division.
About my Role
I run CyberCall, a government initiative that connects organisations facing cybersecurity challenges with innovative solution providers. Basically, I listen to their problems, scout for innovations including emerging technology, and bring the right people together through targeted calls for proposals.
I have been doing this for over a year, and it has been incredibly fulfilling to see how the right tools and solutions help organisations tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges. My mission is to build a cybersecurity ecosystem that's vibrant and innovation-driven. With cyberattacks making headlines regularly, our response is to innovate and transform threats into opportunities (转危为机).

2. What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
I have always been fascinated by technology for the innovative solutions and their real-world impact. My journey kicked off in data consulting, turning numbers into actionable insights. From there, I move into Industry 4.0, helping businesses transform digitally.
Working on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in logistics taught me how to revolutionise supply chains with data and algorithms. But here's the irony: as everyone races toward digitalisation, we have created a massive attack surface. Today, I'm passionate about cybersecurity innovation because a hyper-connected world needs to be safe and secure. The future needs guardians, not just builders.
3. What are some projects you’ve worked on in CSA that you found particularly interesting and/or challenging? What made them interesting, and how did you navigate the challenges?
CyberSG Innovation Day is one of the most exciting projects I'm spearheading. As digital transformation accelerates across every sector, the security gap between innovation and implementation widens.— Mark Chong
CyberSG Innovation Day bridges that gap, uniting researchers, end-users, solution providers, and investors to turn breakthroughs into real-world defences. We spotlight past innovation award winners from research community and the industry, showcasing capabilities that will potentially change the cybersecurity game.
The cybersecurity space is brimming with innovative solutions and groundbreaking ideas. The challenge? We have not created sufficient opportunities for end-users to meet the innovators. We use CyberSG Innovation Day to showcase innovations to end-users and to announce new challenges that are seeking innovative solutions. We are also working with our partners to create more mini-industry engagements throughout the year to engage with more end-users and innovators.

4. Tell us something about your job that not many people know about
This is what my day-to-day looks like.
Constant learning. Technology doesn't wait, and neither can I. Staying current on advancements is key!
Ear to the ground. The cybersecurity landscape shifts fast. Understanding where the industry is pivoting means need to know what threats will be coming and seeking solutions before the cybersecurity threats become mainstream.
Deep evaluation. My desk is constantly filled with technical proposals, each one potentially a game-changer. Sorting breakthrough innovation from noise requires equal parts of technical expertise and strategic vision.
Top misconception when I tell family or friends I’m from CSA: “So you can help me with my scam calls?!”
5. Outside of work, do you have any hobbies and interests? How do you unwind from work?
A good game of soccer never fails to reinvigorate me. It's not the talking that matters but the tacit understanding on the pitch. That wordless connection with teammates, reading each other's movements, anticipating passes without a signal. This creates camaraderie deeper than any conversation could. Having games with colleagues across divisions breaks down the silos, and it will be much easier to reach out the next time we need help!
